Win A Gloomy Bear School Pack (Closed)

Friday, August 6th, 2010

We love Gloomy Bear but we feel sorry for poor Pitty getting beaten all the time. If we could have any pet (real or not) it would probably have to be something like a big chubby bread bug from the game Pikmin. They are so cute and very friendly plus they very good at collecting all sorts of treasure. Below is a picture we found of a lego Breadbug we thought was awesome. Check out this Flickr for more Lego Pikmin characters.http://www.flickr.com/photos/39134527@N04/with/3772962722/

If you want to win these Gloomy bear goodies just tell us what you would have as a pet. Remember it can be anything you want!

This competition ends sunday 15th August.

Here at Chicki we have been going crazy over paper toys. One of our favourite sites would have to be Dolly Oblong for her paper totem project.

Dolly Oblong is a crafty designer who creates cute quirky characters in all shapes and sizes, preferably while drinking tea and munching away cookies. The colourful world of Dolly Oblong is 100% handmade out of plush, paper and occasional bits of vinyl.

Go check out her site here – http://dollyoblong.blogspot.com/

We also got our copy of the book – We Are Paper Toy’s a few weeks ago and recommend it to everyone. It even comes with a disk full of super duper paper toys to create!

Astro Boy Art

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

astrobot-kwaidan

Astro Boy (鉄腕アトム Tetsuwan Atomu, lit. “Mighty Atom”) is a Japanese manga series and television program first broadcast in Japan from 1963 to 1966. The story follows the adventures of a fictional robot named Astro Boy and a selection of other characters along the way.

Astro Boy is the first Japanese television series that embodied the aesthetic that later became known as anime. It originated as a manga comic series started in 1951 by Osamu Tezuka, who is known as the “god of manga”. For a time Astro Boy enjoyed a level of popularity in Japan equivalent to Disney’s Mickey Mouse.

Bob Kessel has created a print combining ANIME ( Astroboy ) and KAIDAN (Japanese ghost story) a genre of Japanese wood block prints. This kind of chicanery is what you come to expect from Bob Kessel, like his picture combining HELLO KITTY with EDVARD MUNCH’S “THE SCREAM”.
The print titled, “ASTRO BOY KAIDAN” is available as a signed and numbered limited edition print. Contact Bob Kessel for pricing and availability.
